Peace and Beauty in Baroque Form
Just a few minutes’ walk from the bustling center of Rovinj, the Franciscan Monastery offers peace, history, and unexpected artistic treasures.
Built between 1702 and 1710 in the Baroque style, this monastery is still active today. Inside, you’ll find an impressive library with over 10,000 volumes, including rare theological texts and first editions from centuries past.
The Museum of Sacred Art within the monastery houses paintings, chalices, liturgical garments, and relics — all showcasing Rovinj’s deep religious heritage. Some of the works are attributed to Venetian masters, reflecting the artistic influence of Italy on Istria.
The monastery garden is a quiet sanctuary, filled with herbs, fig trees, and blooming flowers. It’s the perfect place to pause and reflect, far from the summer crowds.
